Description
The Neck Rotation exercise is a dynamic exercise used in rehab settings as well as gyms to strengthen and stabilize the neck. To perform the Neck Rotation exercise start in a side lying position on a bench, on one shoulder with your head and neck off the bench. Start the movement in a looking down position. Rotate your head up towards the ceiling until you can go no further comfortably. Pause briefly at the top before rotating your head back to the starting position. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions before switching to the other side.
Common Mistakes
Do not allow your head to move up or down during the exercise. Do not tuck your chin. Do not jut your chin out. Do not drop the top of your head as you rotate.
Pro Tips
Rotate around an imaginary axis as if your head was on a long pole. Keep your neck and head centered on that pole instead of allowing your chin to move forwards as you rotate.
Purpose
Neck Rotation can strengthen and stretch your neck musculature which can improve posture, decrease neck pain and headaches and prevent injury.
Form
Use a camera or training partner to ensure that you are rotating around an imaginary axis instead of allowing your head to move off center.
